As a Senior Software Developer, API and Backend, you will be an integral part of the API solutions team, and help design, develop, deliver, and maintain APIs and microservices applications using REST, gRPC, and GraphQL architectural principles for our rapidly evolving products. You will not only bring best practices for designing APIs and microservices, but also be instrumental in designing, building, and scaling the service backend systems and data platforms to bolster sustainability and performance, and will help improve the architecture to handle both the increasing traffic volume, and growing number of APIs and microservices based applications. You will collaborate closely with the software development manager, product managers, QE engineers and other cross-functional developers to design, code, test, deliver and support software within an Agile Scrum environment via an architecture built on a cloud infrastructure and show a readiness to guide team members.

The team is responsible for reliability, scalability, and monitoring of the APIs and microservices. We follow both BDD and TDD for software development. Our technology stack includes, but not limited to C#, .NET core 3.1/.NET 6, golang, PostgresSQL(primarily)/MySQL for database, Redis for caching, Elasticsearch, AWS (primarily)/GCP, Kafka/Redis for event streaming/ asynchronous messaging, Windows (local development)/Linux (remote workload), Docker, REST

What You’ll Do…

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable APIs and microservices for different product platforms and partner applications using .NET Core (3.1)/.NET 6, golang, and REST/gRPC/GraphQL in a cloud-native microservices architecture.
  • Implement industry best practices for API security, policies and versioning strategy.
  • Design, build and maintain service data platforms that may include relational or NoSQL databases for data storage, Redis for caching, Elasticsearch/AWS OpenSearch for search engine, and Kafka for events or asynchronous messaging.
  • Responsible for developing or enhancing auxiliary programs and jobs that build caching or data storage strategies for the APIs and microservices.
  • Develop and foster software engineering best practices and drive continuous improvements in code quality.
  • Develop proof of concepts for the introduction of new technologies as necessary..
  • Participate with business partners in the definition of their requirements.
  • Post-installation support: Monitor system and coordinate user service requests.
  • Participate and/or lead technical design meetings and assist defining system architecture.
  • Work with business stakeholders and the development manager to communicate progress.
  • Provide excellent customer service to users of Crate and Barrel system software applications and demonstrate effective cross-functional teams collaborations and communications.
  • Prepare and plan test environments, execute system tests, and assist with execution of user acceptance tests.
  • Ability to understand the complete service architecture landscape including on-premise and cloud infrastructure, and plan to automate processes.
  • Perform capacity and performance testing of services.
  • Create and/or modify documentation for programs, process flow, test scripts or other software application needs, with the supervision and technical direction of the API development team lead developer and development manager.

What You’ll Bring…

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or comparable work experience; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of software application development experience, including 1-2 years of experience in developing APIs and microservices.
  • Strong Object Oriented Programming experience (C# and .NET core experience is preferred)
  • Experience and understanding of designing and scaling databases (SQL, NoSQL, in-memory)
  • Experience in Cloud based PaaS and IaaS offerings such as AWS, GCP, and Azure. AWS or GCP experience is preferred
  • Experience with using API Gateway and its features
  • Experience in modern API development techniques and design principles, and security including authentication, throttling, and rate limiting
  • Experience in using or understanding the containerization of services, its orchestration, deployment, and the toolsets like Docker, Kubernetes, etc
  • Experience with DevOps build chains (git-based version controls, CI/CD, etc.)
  • Experience in test driven design and domain driven design
  • Demonstrate strong logical analysis, problem solving and organization skills
  • Ability to develop a technical software solution to a business problem utilized by the various business areas that need access to services supplied by an API
  • Ability to create estimates for software development based on technical solutions that address business requirements
  • Good written and verbal language skills (English)
