Director, Data Science, AI/ML

We are looking for a visionary and results-oriented Director of Data Science, AI/ML, with 12-15+ years of extensive experience, including senior leadership roles. This individual will lead the AI & ML Ops Team, shaping our long-term AI/ML vision, driving innovation, and building a world-class team. You'll collaborate with senior leaders to align our analytics capabilities with key business objectives and deliver transformative insights that drive growth and success.

A day in the life as a Director, Data Science, AI/ML…
- Oversees multiple Data Science, AI/ML projects, typically a sub-domain, providing technical direction, leadership, and guidance to ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
- Oversees analysis and assessments to identify problems within company processes, ensuring the development of high-quality, actionable insights and models that inform strategic decision-making and drive business improvements.
- Drive excellence, innovation, and operational efficiency across the department as well as champion agile practices.
- Provides insights and recommendations to decision-makers, including executive leadership, to influence business strategy, drive change, and achieve key business outcomes, and to communicate the value of advanced analytics and AI to the organization
- Establishes and champions best practices, quality standards, and robust knowledge-sharing frameworks across multiple teams, building centers of excellence and promoting a culture of data-driven decision-making, continuous learning, and shared understanding throughout the organization.
- Facilitates cross-functional collaboration with other teams and departments, including engineering, product, marketing, and sales, to align analytical efforts with business objectives and drive cross-functional initiatives, and to ensure seamless integration of analytical solutions into business processes.
- Leads delivery and execution of large-scale projects, removing roadblocks, mitigating risks, and ensuring timely completion of complex analytical programs, while adhering to budget constraints and project timelines.
- Influences the development of the long-term data science, AI/ML strategy, identifying emerging trends, evaluating new technologies, and shaping the organization's data strategy to maintain a competitive edge and drive innovation in the field.
- Drives data science, AI/ML model development excellence within their teams through mentorship, training, and process improvement, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration, and promoting the adoption of new analytical techniques and tools.
- Manages team performance, including setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback across multiple teams, and developing future data scientists and ML Operations leaders within the organization, and building a strong and sustainable talent pipeline.
What you’ll bring to the table…
- Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and organizational development skills.
- Proven ability to lead and scale large, distributed advanced analytics organizations.
- Deep understanding of advanced analytical techniques and methodologies, including machine learning, statistical modeling, and data visualization.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex business needs into analytical strategies and actionable insights.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate complex analytical concepts and engage effectively at all levels, including executive leadership.
- Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, resource planning, and optimizing team capacity.
- Expertise in driving innovation and managing large-scale, complex analytical projects from conception to iterative delivery in an agile environment.
- Ability to foster a strong, positive, and productive data-driven culture that champions knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Experience in talent management, including recruiting, developing, and retaining senior analytics leaders.
- Strong understanding of financial implications in decision-making, ensuring responsible use of company resources.
We’d love to hear from you if you have…
- Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or a related field. (or equivalent extensive practical experience).
- PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, or related field.is preferred.
- 9+ years of progressive experience in in data science, machine learning, optimization models, or related field, with at least 4 years in leadership roles managing teams and complex projects.
- Proven success in leading, and motivating high-performing analytics teams.
