Director, Global Trade Compliance

Location: Northbrook, Illinois

The Director of Global Trade Compliance provides strategic and technical leadership for the company’s global customs and trade compliance program. This role is accountable for ensuring compliance with all global trade laws and regulations, including C-TPAT, HTS classification, tariff programs, duty drawback, valuation, USMCA, and other preferential trade agreements. 

  • This is an on-site position (Monday through Thursday) based out of our Northbrook, IL offices with the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays
  • This role is a People leader position 


A day in the life as a Director, Global Trade Compliance 

  • Develop and implement comprehensive global trade & compliance policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with industry best practices
  • Manage customs brokers’ performance and ensure that all trade documentation—including Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, tariff impact modeling, and duty optimization strategies—is accurate, complete, and aligned with regulatory requirements
  • Continuously monitor, interpret, and communicate changes in global trade regulations to internal stakeholders. Advise on trade compliance implications of business decisions, providing strategic insights and recommendations
  • Identify innovative solutions to streamline processes, improve accuracy, and reduce manual efforts while ensuring data integrity
  • Conduct trade compliance audits, risk assessments, and self-reviews; develop a robust reporting process identifying gaps and action plans for mitigation
  • Deliver tailored training to ensure organizational understanding of customs and trade compliance policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee the company’s C-TPAT Security and Trade Compliance Program, ensuring necessary compliance frameworks and internal controls are in place; lead all security assessments, partner validations, and the delivery of the Annual C-TPAT Security Profile and Annual Trade Compliance Notification Letter to CBP
  • Oversee all drawback programs (U.S. Duty Drawback and USMCA), providing full lifecycle oversight including data validation, claim preparation, and claim submissions
  • Lead a team of trade compliance professionals, supporting professional development and program continuity

What you’ll bring to the table… 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and international trade regulations, including C-TPAT, HTS classification, tariff programs, valuation, drawback, and preferential trade agreements (e.g., USMCA)
  • Strong analytical skills and experience building KPI-based performance reporting for trade compliance programs
  • Expertise in recordkeeping, document management, and utilization of global trade automation tools (e.g., GTM systems, ACE, and classification databases)
  • Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams with strong urgency, judgment, and prioritization skills


We’d love to hear from you if you have…  

  • 10+ years trade compliance experience, working for an importer or exporter preferably in the retail sector 
  • CTPAT Certification Program leadership experience
  • Licensed US Customs Broker required
  • Demonstrated expertise with Harmonized Code System (HTS) & US Customs Classification
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree preferred


Minimum Starting Rate: $160,000.00 Hourly

Up to: $200,000.00 Hourly

Pay ranges will be adjusted upward as needed to comply with applicable state and local law. In addition to your salary, based on your role, associates may be eligible for other compensation including bonuses, sales incentives, and long term incentives.
