Director of Architecture - Product, Planning & Corporate Functions

The Director of Architecture - Product, Planning & Corporate Functions will be responsible for creating an enterprise-wide architecture strategy for Crate & Barrel and developing and implementing an architecture roadmap for Product, Planning & Corporate Functions. The Director will collaborate with architects, engineers, developers, and business stakeholders on cross-functional initiatives to shape the future state technology landscape for Crate. This role will drive a cloud-first architecture standard and ensure that existing and new solutions are delivered with sustainability, performance, and scalability.
This position is remote with ~20% travel to corporate headquarters in Northbrook, Illinois
A day in the life as a Director of Architecture - Product, Planning & Corporate Functions...
- Define and deliver on an end-to-end Technology architecture roadmap in line with our business and technology strategy
- Work closely with the Technology and Product leadership teams to shape and define the technology strategy and roadmap
- Lead solution blueprinting and detailed design activities
- Use architectural principles to design highly effective solutions to satisfy business outcomes and requirements
- Ensure solutions are fit for purpose, secure, scalable, flexible, highly performance, future proofed and cost-effective
- Design and document architecture at multiple levels (high level to detailed) and across multiple views (eg. conceptual, logical, physical, data flow and sequence diagrams)
- Translate business requirements into conceptual and detailed technology solutions
- Perform third-party vendor assessments as well as lead proof of concept exercises
- Assess risk of applications and make recommendations based on assessments
- Provide guidance and supervision for the structured approach to business application solutions and implementation
- Partner with the Security and Operations team to ensure solution compliance
- Communicate the architecture to stakeholders and collaborate/coordinate with existing domain architects in the formalization and adoption of IT standards and procedures
What you’ll bring to the table…
- Seasoned experience architecting Enterprise Solutions
- Expertise architecting and delivering end-to-end solutions
- Experience with automation technologies
- Broad experience with a variety of Software Development Lifecycle methodologies
- A thought leader in new/emerging technology and its application in business
- Proven delivery application portfolios inclusive of Cloud technologies and on-prem solutions
- Experienced with defining Enterprise Technology strategy -- designing and prototyping, testing, training, defining support procedures and implementing practical business solutions under multiple deadlines
- Excellent communication and executive presentation skills with the ability to communicate well to technical and business audiences at the executive level
- Strong negotiating and consensus building abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A self-starter that is naturally inquisitive, requiring only small pieces to the puzzle, across many technologies, both new and legacy - able to quickly learn new technologies and tools
We’d love to hear from you if you have…
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or comparable work experience; Master’s Degree preferred
- 5+ years of Cloud platform experience and leveraging its technologies. Experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Azure is preferred and multi-cloud is a plus
- 10+ years as a Software Application Architect with experience collaborating with Development teams
- 10+ years of Architecture experience in Planning & Allocation, Merchandising, Sourcing & Manufacturing and/or Finance related technologies
- Experience with Blue Yonder Planning (Demand Forecasting, Fulfillment and Merchandise Financial Planning) ideal
- Experience with API frameworks delivering low-latency services on large datasets
- Experience architecting and delivering data integration, ELT and ETL solutions as well as microservices-based solutions
- Experience designing and developing performance-optimized data models, data pipelines, both batch and streaming
