Senior Systems Engineer

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for building, configuring and deploying critical infrastructure used across the organization. They will be responsible for providing 24x7 operational support along with executing infrastructure related projects. This is a combination of infrastructure administration, engineering, and architecture.
This is a hybrid position based out of our Northbrook, IL office. This role can be worked remotely the majority of the time, and will only require travel to the office for and will only require travel into the office when necessary (likely a couple times a year).
A day in the life as a Systems Engineer…
- Partnering with technical administrators, application developers, and other technical peers to create robust, scalable infrastructure solutions
- Coordinating and executing projects associated with the installation, configuration and deployment of compute, storage, and virtualization technologies
- Providing operational and project status reports
- Contributing and supporting disaster recovery activities and strategy
- Performing patch management activities for critical infrastructure
- Scripting and automating routine tasks
- Participating in annual business audits and providing all related documentation to appropriate team(s)
- Participating in the evaluation of new infrastructure technologies
- Recommending optimizations to the environment which improve delivery and performance for end users and customers
- Establishing standard operating procedures for building and deploying infrastructure
- Resolving incidents and work orders escalated from the Service Desk
- Providing technical training to Service Desk, Operations, and relevant parties
- Serving as after hour, weekend and holiday support, as necessary
- Maintaining and supporting infrastructure at remote locations

- Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills
- Ability to write and present information and documentation
- Strong ability to manage multiple issues at once
- Strong working knowledge of server, storage and virtualization technologies within a hybrid-cloud environment
- Ability to Collaborate with technical peers across a highly dispersed work environment
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with all company associates and business units including executive leadership
- Maintain awareness of industry best practices and partner with management to ensure these are applied appropriately
We’d love to hear from you if you have…
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ Years Systems Engineering experience in a hybrid-cloud environment
- Hands-on experience with a mix of server, storage, and virtualization technologies
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience integrating with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Strong understanding of core system administration concepts (e.g., patch management, OS layout and integrity, security, hardening and service management, backup, restore, monitoring and maintenance)
- Basic scripting capabilities in at least one scripting language for system administration automation on one OS (e.g., PowerShell, VB, WMI or PowerCLI)
