Transportation Data Analyst

Crate and Barrel is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Transportation Data Analyst to optimize its global transportation and logistics operations.
The Transportation Data Analyst will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust data solutions, automating transportation-specific reporting, and collaborating with the import and operations teams to drive continuous improvement.
- This is an on-site position (Monday through Thursday) based out of our Northbrook, IL office with the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays.
A day in the life as a Transportation Data Analyst...
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs), scorecards, and dashboards specifically for transportation operations, including on-time delivery, cost per container, and exception rates, to enhance vendor accountability and inbound planning reliability
- Automate and maintain reporting pipelines for international shipment tracking, meticulously identifying missing or duplicate container records and reconciling freight charges across vendor and carrier data sources
- Collaborate with transportation teams to design and implement data validation logic for critical customs documentation, Bill of Lading (BOL) accuracy, and freight invoice reconciliation, ensuring improved compliance and payment accuracy
- Spearhead analytics standardization and data transition initiatives for transportation data using relational databases and business intelligence tools (e.g., MicroStrategy) to provide actionable insights during any disruptions to freight movement
- Conduct in-depth transportation issue analysis (e.g., transit delays, demurrage, and detention) and collaborate with Operations to translate analytical findings into actionable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for transportation processes
- Provide expertise in transportation data modeling, analysis, and automation utilizing tools such as SQL, Tableau, MicroStrategy, MS Access, Excel, Visual Basic, and macros
- Collect, validate, and integrate freight payment data from various sources, including carrier invoices, payment systems, ERP systems, and internal databases
- Clean, transform, and prepare large datasets of freight payment information for analysis, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and integrity
What you’ll bring to the table…
- Knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS)
- Familiarity with EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) and other electronic invoicing methods
- Experience with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes
- Strong understanding of global transportation, tariffs, and contract terms
- Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis using SQL or similar database tools
- Experience in data visualization, using tools such as Power BI, or similar software
We’d love to hear from you if you have…
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred
- 5+ years of professional experience in data analysis, with a significant focus on freight payment and audit, or transportation operations data.Experience with freight audit and payment software platforms
