Studio Associate, Special Projects (Scenic Artist)

The Studio Associate, Special Projects (Scenic Artist) works closely with the Scenic Artist Manager, Lead Scenic Artists, Set Designers, Art Directors, and Stylists to execute Painted and Textured Effects for photo shoot productions. This role supports the creation of Scenic Finishes, Specialty Artwork, and Set Surfaces that reflect the Crate and Barrel, Crate and Kids, and CB2 brand standards.
A day in the life as a Studio Associate, Special Projects (Scenic Artist)...
Execute scenic techniques, including decorative faux and specialty finishes, surface treatments, specialty artwork, murals, scenic backgrounds, and hand-painted details.
Translate design requests into physical finishes by creating samples and submitting them for approval during shoots.
Spray or hand-paint set pieces based on project requirements, timelines, and technical constraints.
Follow material safety guidelines and company policies when handling paints, coatings, and specialty materials.
Support daily photography studio operations, including organization, maintenance, and safety procedures.
Organize and maintain paint archives, tools, material resources, and shared work areas for photoshoot preparation.
Learn and consistently apply faux finishing techniques that are essential to the Crate and Barrel, Crate and Kids, and CB2 brands.
What you'll bring to the table...
Strong planning and preparation skills, with the ability to manage projects efficiently from concept through execution.
Advanced painting and drawing skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Ability to take direction well and incorporate feedback in a fast-paced, collaborative studio environment.
Positive, service-oriented attitude with strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to lift up to 65 lbs and perform physical tasks required for set preparation and studio operations.
We'd love to hear from you if you have...
Degree in Fine Arts, Theater Arts, Scenic Design, or a related creative field, or equivalent professional experience.
2+ years of scenic or art experience in theater, film, or photography.
2+ years of professional photoshoot experience.
Experience using both airless and air-powered spray guns.
Working knowledge of general house painting techniques, including drywall repair, patching, and surface preparation.
Starting Rate: $18.03 - $21.63
Pay ranges will be adjusted upward as needed to comply with applicable state and local law. In addition to your salary, based on your role, associates may be eligible for other compensation including bonuses, sales incentives, and long term incentives.
