Director, eCommerce Architecture

The Director, eCommerce Architecture will be responsible for working shoulder to shoulder on initiatives with multiple development teams to design quality solutions built for sustainability, performance, and scalability on a cloud-first, composable, headless architecture for high traffic customer-facing retail websites. This position requires a strong foundation in cloud-based architecture, microservices, building ecommerce websites and the ability to bridge to other technologies and skills over time as our architecture landscape evolves. This will be accomplished in a highly collaborative, exciting, and fast-paced atmosphere with a passion for learning new technologies, patterns, tools, platforms, and best practices. It also requires great communication, mentoring, and empathy skills to coach other developers in the aforementioned areas.

A day in the life as a Director, eCommerce Architecture…

  • Define and deliver an end-to-end eCommerce architecture roadmap for the website technology stack, in line with our business and technology strategy.
  • Work closely with business, technology & product leadership teams to shape and define the technology strategy & roadmap
  • Use Architectural principles to design highly effective solutions to satisfy business outcomes and requirements.
  • Ensure that solutions are fit for purpose, secure, scalable, flexible, highly performance, future proofed and cost-effective.
  • Design and document architecture at multiple levels (high level to detailed) and across multiple views (eg. conceptual, logical, physical, data flow and sequence diagrams).
  • Translating business requirements into conceptual and detailed technology solutions
  • Collaborate closely with other architects, product leaders and peers across the organization.
  • Perform third-party vendor assessments.
  • Lead proof of concept exercises.
  • Streamline and optimize technology development and deployment, and automated testing
  • Keeping a pulse on the latest technology trend in the marketplace - staying current with vendor product offerings and emerging solutions; continuously learning new technologies with good understanding of practical usage to advance enterprise goals
  • Assess risk of applications and make recommendations based on assessments.
  • Provides guidance and supervision for the structured approach to business application solutions and implementation.
  • Partners with the Security and Operations team to ensure solution compliance.
  • Communicates the architecture to the stakeholders and collaborates and coordinates with existing domain architects in the formalization and adoption of IT standards and procedures.

What you’ll bring to the table…  

  • Extremely knowledgeable architecting and delivering composable and headless retail websites, SPAs
  • Experience with API frameworks delivering low-latency services on large datasets
  • Experience architecting and delivering data integration, ELT and ETL solutions
  • Experience architecting and delivering microservices-based solutions
  • Experience designing and developing high speed performance for web applications
  • Experience designing and developing quality via unit testing and automation for websites and APIs
  • Experience with Agile Development practices
  • Strong communication and executive presentation skills; ability to communicate well to both technical and business audiences at the executive level
  • Experience defining Enterprise Technology strategy: designing and prototyping, testing, training, defining support procedures and implementing practical business solutions under multiple deadlines
  • Proven strong negotiating and consensus building abilities.
  • Proven delivery application portfolios inclusive of cloud technologies and web applications
  • Proficient in standing up observability and caching
  • Preferred experience with automation technologies
  • Wide experience with a variety of Software Development Lifecycle methodologies
  • Thought leader in new/emerging technology and its application in business


We’d love to hear from you if you have…  

  • 15+ years of experience with designing and developing website and eCommerce technology solutions - retail checkout funnel, shopping top of funnel, observability frameworks, account management, caching/performance, microservices and microsites
  • 10+ years of software application architect role collaborating with development teams
  • 10+ years of cloud platform experience leveraging its technologies
  • Experience with .NET Technologies, ReactJS or comparable framework preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or comparable work experience; Master’s degree preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Minimum Starting Rate: $175,000.00 Annually

Up to: $220,000.00 Annually

Pay ranges will be adjusted upward as needed to comply with applicable state and local law. In addition to your salary, based on your role, associates may be eligible for other compensation including bonuses, sales incentives, and long term incentives.
