Senior Sourcing Manager, Furniture

Location: Northbrook, Illinois

We’re here for it. We think you should be too. We’re looking for a driven professional with an inclusive mindset to join our team as a Senior Sourcing Planner, Furniture (Dining and Outdoor).

The Senior Sourcing Manager will lead a team responsible for managing department level sourcing. The associate will be responsible for cultivating cross-functional and vendor relationships to optimize cost strategy and vendor network and be the point person for our agents all over the world.

This is a hybrid position that typically required three days per week in our Northbrook, IL headquarters office.


A day in the life as a Senior Sourcing Manager…

  • Execute and advise on vendor strategies utilizing a vendor matrix to support Product Development and Buying strategies (including vendor allocation and sku rationalization)
  • Negotiate favorable first costs based on targets provided by the Merchant team and effectively ensure design and materials are aligned to either first cost target or cost engineer on design and material direction
  • Develop and monitor pre-production activities (sample development, quotes, packaging, etc.) to ensure all are completed in a timely manner
  • Track sampling of product, escalating potential delays and ensuring that samples are available for review by deadlines set in the product development calendar
  • Analyze and calculate costs of procurement and suggest methods to decrease expenditure; Achieve class margin goals
  • Monitor purchase order milestones to ensure development is approved prior to ordering and any outstanding approvals are escalated to senior management
  • Identify and track vendor capabilities, including:
    • Innovation in design and production (materials and techniques)
    • Value - Cost and quality
    • CSR
  • Assess and analyze vendor capacities and partner with planning teams to utilize projections and forecasts
  • Improve vendor reliability through the management of vendor performance
  • Assess, react, and communicate to appropriate business units on missed production or purchase order deadlines
  • Supervise Associate Sourcing Manager and support achievement of individual savings targets
  • Look into new markets/suppliers for additional resources and to fill assortment gaps
  • Negotiate chargebacks for quality and or late shipment issues
  • Mitigate tariffs by recommending engineering changes, buying ahead, factory location changes and finding new suppliers   
  • Condense vendor lead times based on volume and expected growth
  • Track vendor capacity and make recommendations to grow, maintain or decline
  • Work on streamlining protocols, procedures and expectations with our agents

What you’ll bring to the table…

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for assigned categories and knowledge of international market conditions (labor, currency, material costs, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills, including multi-cultural awareness and effective communication with overseas vendors and agents 
  • Ability to manage and develop direct reports
  • Ability to manage a timing and action calendar
  • Negotiating skills
  • Strong financial reporting and quantitative analysis skills
  • Flexible and agile working style to adapt to changing business needs
  • Ability to travel overseas (typically twice annually)

  • 7+ years furniture sourcing or product development experience
  • 5+ years management experience
  • Bachelor’s in business, merchandising, or related field
